Some Old Work (10 - 11, 11 - 12)

I've been looking through my archive of photos (I try to take as many pictures as possible throughout the year so I can remind myself what I did, what worked and what didn't) and I thought I'd share some of my old things.

1. Y4 T-Rex Display

This first display is from a Jurassic Park topic, with the theme being Dinosaurs. It was a Year 4 topic. My super talented TA made the fossils of a t-rex and a stegosaurus and we gave them to the children jumbled up to sort and put together themselves. She made them using papermache and these are still used in school now, they've truly stood the test of time (although I'm not sure they'll still be around in a couple of million years...).

2. Y4 Maths Working Wall

This was a maths working wall on measures for Year 4. The wall was added to over several weeks as the children explored different elements of measures. They contributed to the display (using post-its) and there were also tasks to complete.

3. Y4 Tudor Portraits & Sketching Display

This display was put together from two different pieces of art work. Children had used powder paint to produce an image of Henry VIII or one of his six wives. They'd used three different pencils to sketch a Tudor house.

4. Y4 Tudor House Sketching

The Year 4 children honed their sketching skills to produce drawings of tudor houses. This was following a visit to Gainsborough Hall. The drawing in the bottom left was done by my TA as an example.

5. Y6 How Am I Smart?

Eventually this display had children's photos on once the children had completed a small questionnaire. I made this by printing large images, sticking them on black sugar paper and cutting around them.

6. Y6 Britain's Got Talent WOW Week & Display

This was the door to the 'audition room' during the WOW Week. The children had to put together a talent (individually or in groups) to perform in front of the judges. We went on to have a talent night at the end of the term where parents were invited.

The audition room, complete with buzzers!

The children recounted the week and wrote their work up in best for the display. I've done a lot on 'publishing' writing since this and producing best work for display.

(Please ignore the untidy, out of sync drawers below! These are now in order...)

7. ICT Suite Parts of a Computer

This display was in the ICT suite, I put it together when I did a short stint of being ICT Coordinator.

8. Y6 Alcatraz

This is probably one of the best things I created in my classroom and unfortunately I've not been able to recreate it since. During a topic on Crime & Punishment, we studied Alcatraz as a military base, prison and tourist attraction. My HLTA and I built an Alcatraz cell as a small reading area. We used wood for the frame and then stapled card to the sides before painting and adding the bed and shelf (the shelf later housed books). The kids loved the cell and spent free choice reading time in there.

9. Y6 Chinese Symbols

For a whole school 'Our World Week', we looked at China. The week had lots of activities, one of which was choosing and making a 3D image of a Chinese symbol. The children had to reproduce the image on black card and then cut it out using scissors and a craft knife. They then had to position their symbols correctly on card, using sticky foam pads to make it stand out.

10. Y6 This is Goole Writing and Drawing

Children had to write a historical recount about events in the town of Goole. They then produced the work in best. The display was put together with some sketching work of a local hotel.

I hope some of this is useful. This is all work from my first two years of teaching. My next blog will have work from my third year of teaching. I still come back to some of these now but have refined them slightly which you'l see in future posts.

Signing off!
